Beautiful Messy Love is the first book I’ve read by author Tess Woods. It is written in the style of a rom-com with the lives of the main characters intrinsically linked, and while seemingly light-hearted, there are deeper themes of racial discrimination and violence, refugees and mental illness.
It was really well written and the characters were all engaging and likeable. There are some particularly saucy moments and sexual escapades which feature throughout the book, so best to pre-warn other readers (particularly older people) if you think they will find this uncomfortable. The book is a great reminder that love in all its forms requires time, patience and effort to flourish but ultimately when its right, it’s worth fighting for.
