Indigo Blue reviewed by Vivian

This is a great debut fiction novel from well known solo sailor Jessica Watson.

The story centres around Alex, who has been sent to live with her free-spirited aunt in a small lakeside town to complete her last year of high school. Feeling completely out of place, Alex spends her savings on a run-down yacht. This helps her to feel at home, as she sets about restoring it. She slowly starts to make some friends but it’s Sam who captures her eye. There is something mysterious about him and although her aunt doesn’t approve it doesn’t stop Alex from spending time with him.

Watson uses her extensive, first-hand, knowledge of sailing which adds depth to the story. This book will appeal to young readers and they will also enjoy the element of fantasy Watson brings to the story.
