Mallee Boys, written by Charlie Archbold, is about two brothers who live in the Mallee with their father. Their mother died and the three deal with this together, but apart.
The brothers, Sandy who is 15 and Red who is 18 are chalk and cheese but clearly love each other and want to help each other get through to live their dreams.
The book deals with death, grief, farm living, girls, love, drug and alcohol violence and family life. The characters are well written and develop over the story, building on their strengths and acknowledging their weaknesses.
A good book for young adults and people wanting a shorter read about real life issues.
