Raising Literacy Australia – Our Story

2002

The Big Book Club initiative commenced in South Australia with the aim to encourage reading through a state wide ‘Book Club’ for adult readers, appropriately named ‘The Big Book Club’.  Author tours in suburban and regional areas brought communities together and helped to boost library memberships and establish new book clubs.

2004

The organisation expanded with the implementation of an early intervention literacy campaign educating parents to read to their children from birth. The Little Big Book Club was officially launched in 2005 and in the following year, 20,000 families across the state with a baby aged 0-12 months were given the first free ‘reading pack for babies’.

2015

With the continued positive growth of the organisation we took the opportunity to reflect on our practices, our place in the marketplace and how the organisation’s name supports our purpose, goals and priorities. As a result, we are pleased to introduce our new name – Raising Literacy Australia, with our purpose to enrich Australian lives through literacy through our early childhood, youth and adult reading programs.

    1. Dear Gordon, thanks for your interest in our website. We normally only select books that are readily available in bookshops and libraries that we have received from publishers. Unfortunately we cannot consider your books. All the best.
