Summertime by Vanessa Lafaye

Summertime

Henry, an African American man returns from the war in France in 1934 to Heron Keys, a fictional town in  Florida. Battle scarred like many who have fought with him, he reconnects with Missy, an old friend who works as a maid for a prominent family in the town.

He is accused of assaulting a white woman who has been found close to dead. In amongst these racial and socio-economic tensions, a hurricane hits and Mother Nature does not discriminate.

A compelling debut for Vanessa Lafaye.
