The Lone Child reviewed by Pat

The Lone Child is a book to which every mother will relate, when Neve Ayres as very new first time mother finds herself alone with her baby in a beach house on the Mornington Peninsula. The author, Anna George, takes us on Neve’s journey of sleep deprivation, confusion and uncertainty so realistically that it didn’t surprise me at all to read that she has two sons of her own.

Neve having been a successful career woman, in a relationship up until she was eight months pregnant, struggles with the highs and lows of single motherhood. In the midst of this she finds herself involved with another child and her mother, and the story thereby develops a parallel narrative; two mothers from very different backgrounds, with the same feelings of absolute love for their offspring.
