This is How it Always Is reviewed by Wendy

I am always a pushover for a book about a family dealing with difficult situations.

Laurie Frankel explains to the reader on the first page that she has a little girl who used to be a boy and that is the reason she has written the book.

It succeeds on many levels – it is a heart warming family story, entertaining with its quirky characters, but also enlightening. We see the problems Claude/Poppy ( the youngest of 5 children- with four older brothers) has with his gender ‘choice’ and how it affects each member of his/her very supportive family. A brave book and a worthwhile read.
