Where the Trees Were by Inga Simpson

Where the Trees Were

A group of children find carvings on trees on Jay’s family property. Recognising their significance they vow to keep them a secret.

Jayne as an adult works as an art curator for a museum and comes across a similar tree, and with one of her old friends, tries to protect this one.

This is a coming of age book with a difference. The issues of the removal and destruction of Aboriginal artefacts are raised with sensitivity, and add to the discussion about their return to their country and people.
