Barbed Wire and Cherry Blossoms reviewed by Marie

barbed-wire-and-cherry-blossoms

The Prisoner of War camp at Cowra, the Aboriginal mission at Erambie, the White Australia Policy, Acts of Protection and Assimilation, the prohibition on Aborigines to vote (yet they fought in the Second War War), the white mission manager – all are discussed in this novel by Aboriginal author Anita Heiss who has published many times.

The closeness of the Aboriginal family is central to the story about an escaped Japanese prisoner. An interesting read.
