China Baby Love reviewed by Pat

China Baby Love is the story of Linda Shum, a Queenslander who gave up her peaceful existence in Australia to work with orphans in China, many of whom had disabilities both physical and intellectual.

The story is one of incredible sadness and suffering, but at the same time it is inspiring and uplifting to read of the sacrifice and hard work of this amazing woman and the difference she was able to make. The reader learns also of the one child policy that existed in China and the far reaching ramifications that still affect the Chinese people today.

The author, Jane Hutcheon, (host of the ABC’s One Plus One) originally intended this to be a short interview for a current affairs programme, but became so interested and involved in the story it blew out to become her second book.
