The Fall is an young adult fiction crime novel. It would suit younger years, 12-15. The Fall focuses on Sam who is staying with his father, Harry, who he has just met. Harry is a crime writer journalist and Sam is obsessed with knowing him and following in his footsteps. Sam witnesses a murder and decides to investigate while his dad is out, which unravels a story of corruption, murder and changes Sam’s view of his safety in the world.
The Fall is a slow moving book, until the end when it speeds up to monumental proportions. Some young readers may find it a little slow at times, but it’s worth persevering. The Fall looks at family relationship, fractured families, crime and corruption, disability and loneliness.
