The Good People reviewed by Marie

A horror story, full of Irish folklore of the nineteenth century. This novel tells of the impact of untimely deaths and loss on a poverty-ridden and ignorant community.

The setting – the constant rain and the mud, the freezing temperature, and bare feet, the two roomed huts, and the companionship of the domestic animals who live inside – is very unpleasant. Well researched, this novel was inspired by a case of infanticide in county Kerry. A challenging book.
