The Wonder reviewed by Wendy

The Wonder is set in Ireland in the 1850s. It is a haunting story about a nurse sent to observe a young girl who, her parents claim, has stopped eating and can live without food. It paints a vivid picture of life in the Irish Midlands after the potato famine, with religion providing the nourishment and hope to compensate for the hard times.

As time passes and the bond between the young girl and the nurse (and the reader) becomes stronger the book has the urgency of a gothic thriller and is unputdownable.
